Anurag Kashyap didn’t always dream of being a filmmaker. Born in India, he initially wanted to be a scientist. But life had other plans. His love for cinema led him to screenwriting, where he got his break with Satya (1998), a film that reshaped Bollywood’s crime genre.
His directorial debut, Paanch, never made it to theaters due to censorship issues. But Kashyap didn’t back down. The Struggle with Bollywood’s Changing Priorities
Kashyap has always pushed boundaries, but Bollywood started shifting in a direction he didn’t recognize. Studios became obsessed with box office numbers, chasing the next Rs 800 crore blockbuster. That left little room for experimental or offbeat cinema.
Frustrated, he spoke openly about his struggles. “Selling the film takes priority even before it starts, sucking out the joy of filmmaking,” he said in an interview. Creative freedom took a backseat, and making films felt more like a business deal than a passion project.

- Dacoit – A Hindi-Telugu bilingual starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur.
- Footage – A Malayalam thriller with Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok. Its Hindi version drops on March 7, 2025.
